Consumerism vs. Art Appreciation (the Dutch and Flemish Cabinet Paintings)

Topics: Drawing, flemish painting, national gallery of art, original painting, vermeer, veronica winters, veronicasart

I have been in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. on numerous occasions. When I'm there I often go through the main galleries and pause for a while at smaller artworks located in the Dutch and Flemish Cabinet galleries. I just love seeing those little, often humorous genre scenes of the Dutch. It's sort of like picking through a window unnoticed, observing the intimate life of community. Johannes Vermeer is my favorite painter from Delft of that time. Vermeer's paintings emanate quietness and solitude. Soft light bathes young woman's face in "A girl with a pearl earring" painting. She is emerging from the darkness with her mouth half-open, frozen in a moment of conversation. Her headscarf of blue and gold is elaborately arranged on her head… Continue reading… 0 comments

This blog entry is intended for inspiring artists who want to start selling on Ebay on their own. You have to be aware of some people shopping there. They not only look for a great deal but also for a bargain. They look for not just a bargain but the cheapest deal they can get. A while ago one of the customers from Ebay wrote to me asking about selling a similar piece to him since he has been outbid by another customer in the auction. That artwork was sold under $40 with bids placed in 50-cent increments. That guy was outbid by a few cents! I offered him a similar piece at a low price that covered my expenses of making it but turned out to be "too much" for his pocketbook… Continue reading… 0 comments

Still life with pink rose and glass apple

This is an original oil painting on canvas paper. I painted this beautiful still life from life, making a set up on my kitchen's window. I was attracted to delicate colors of the flowers and glass reflections in the vase and the apple. To me roses are very difficult flowers to paint. It either works or it does not! The price doesn't include framing. yet, it's easy to frame it by buying a standard frame sold at almost any store. It's 16_20 inches… Continue reading… 0 comments

Creativity in Painting

Yes, there are many truly talented artists nowadays practicing arts just like I do. Tons of art magazines are filled with continuous pictures: various works of art. Paintings small, big, medium, dark, light, colorful, muted, disturbing, exciting, boring, weird, angry, quiet, beautiful, ugly, you name it. Numerous artists graduate from abundant art schools to pursue the career that is often stereotyped, laughed at, underpaid and unappreciated. Other self-taught artists of various ages join the group to make the word "artist" even more ambiguous and encompassing. (I'm totally eliminating yet another group of "artists" who glue titles of creativity to their forehead but lack both talent and ability at once, in exchange for masterful communication skills and connections)… Continue reading… 0 comments
